We have big dreams. All of us. But rarely do we take life by the horns and steer it in the direction our inner self calls us to. Because we get trapped in everyday routines, are believing what we have been taught and told: live according to social norms and values. But is this really us? What are our dreams based on? On our soul-deep desires or really just on what our consciousness knows? Sometimes, it is hard to center inward in this noisy world. But practicing awareness and giving our soul a voice is essential when it comes to dreaming big.
When we are born, we are pure, in fact, the purest version of ourselves. As the years pass and we grow up, we develop a consciousness that is based on beliefs, norms, values that are all ingrained into us through our family life and external, social patterns. We become an individual, mature person with ideas, values, a certain understanding of the world – and visions. Visions for ourselves. Desires. And dreams. But they are most likely pre-shaped.
Dreams are the touchstones of our characters – Henry David Thoreau
Dreaming is vital for a fulfilled life. That is because dreams are the goals that we are trying to achieve and they keep us going, working towards something. Yet, we have to ask ourselves, looking back at the fact that we are “shaped” the person we are because of various socio-economic factors, if those are our true, deepest desires.
Returning to Yourself
Does it go back to the truly pure version of ourselves? Are we chasing dreams we would have even if we were free of all the social constraints, of our upbringing and ingrained beliefs passed on through generations? Are those big dreams really what we want for ourselves? Or are they projected on us – and we think those are the ultimate goals – by society and the societal environment we’re ultimately subject to?
It is difficult to distinguish between the wishes of our souls, our honest, inner voice, and the goals we have in our conscious mind. This is due to the fact that we think it is in control, when, in fact, our subconscious is the guiding force. And that includes all the social beliefs, values, ways of thinking, implanted into us throughout the years. We are largely products of our environment – if we don’t step outside of our minds and practice awareness to return to our true self.
Big Dreams from the Soul
We have to first find the way back to ourselves in order to evaluate if our big dreams are socially constructed ones or our pure desire – based on who we really are, albeit the cultural framework we’ve been brought up in. Stepping outside of our existence and daily motions is the first step towards finding out who we really are and what big dreams we really have. Know yourself, thoroughly – as the key to dreaming bigger, more passionately.
We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are – Anaïs Nin
Look inward, turn away from everything that’s surrounding you and find the space to only be with yourself. Listen to the voice from within. The daily noise and ingrained beliefs can make it hard for us to center into the calm and hear our soul out. It takes time and practice.
But being aware of the sheer fact that we do become who we are because of our environments and that there can technically be a more raw, maybe even a completely different, real version of ourselves is the most important and absolutely crucial step towards connecting with our true big dreams. Those only our soul knows and holds space for.
Dream Big No Matter What
It starts and ends with us. Technically, no one is holding us back. Therefore, believe it or not (well, you’re advised to believe, that’s the point), but your dreams already exist. They are here already, tangible. You just have to see them and work your way through the fog of uncertainty, doubt, and other limitations. They are already real – and they can become a reality for you if you can see that.
All dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them – Walt Disney
The opportunities we wish for in life are here. We just don’t see them and are unaware of their existence. Hence, why, all too often, the seemingly tall mountain we think we’re unable to climb is holding us back. It’s because we think we have to create our goals and opportunities and then have to go achieve them, when, in reality, we just have to go for them. Don’t create a complex case around why you cannot go on that quest of dreaming and doing big things. Be the change, and inspire someone else with your attitude.
No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid – Lupita Nyong’o
Your dreams are always valid. They will manifest if only you believe in them, take the necessary action steps. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances are. Dream. Dream big. Even bigger. You matter. Your dreams matter. You now know they are already waiting for you.
The Energy You Radiate
Dreams are our personal fuel. But oftentimes, we feel stuck, lose direction, and don’t know what to do. We freeze. And we feel down, wondering why we are where we are. Firstly, it all is meant to be. It’s the universe responding. Why? Because the source energy you are connecting with is of utmost importance when it comes to achieving dreams.
If you are depressed, you are living in the past. […] feeling anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present – Lao Tsu
You are pessimistic and wonder if you’re capable? Maybe you are blaming your past circumstances for not being able to chase your goals? Or, maybe you’re worried about what people think if you were to just ditch the social norms to go a path that truly feels right for you. Chances are, this low frequency energy is not allowing you to take the next steps necessary to create the life you envision. You have to first find your inner peace and strength. From there builds the energy you need to put out to attract what you aim for. You already carry it within you.
The universe is a funny thing, for it responds directly to what you put out there. Think of it in terms of energy, frequency, vibrations. Logically, like vibrations attract like vibrations. And that is the open secret. You can never dream big enough; the only thing you need to do is change your mind, your thinking, and the energy you release. And watch the universe do its magic, pulling you closer to your goals.
How do you reconnect with yourself in this busy world? What are your true dreams?
